The Coppermoon

The picture heading this blog post is part of a painting on the wall of my studio. I’m not sure which came first, the mural or the name, except that it came to me in a dream.

After moving to a new area and taking on the challenges of a beautiful old Georgian home in need of some love, I felt I needed a change of direction with work too. Having left the school I had worked in for far too many years, I took the leap and started revitalising my creative plans. Photography - yes, that will still be there. I love capturing special moments at weddings, stunning landscapes, trying to pin down and freeze frame the crazy joy and exuberance of childhood in family shoots and with my own children. Design too - there’s still a great deal to be enjoyed in producing those logos, leaflets, websites and posters. But it has been far too long since I was a practising artist in a studio, wrestling with a sketchbook and a canvas.

So, this is the restarting of a long interrupted journey for me. I am making a commitment to do what I love. This blog will, hopefully, help to keep me honest - I will use it as a tool to share my everyday sketches, photos and ramblings, a place to connect with you, out there, whether you are part of the creative community, or just a lover of beautiful things. Please spread the word that I am here, working on my own illustrated books and paintings, but always on the look out for commissions, however big or small. Over the years, I’ve worked with Amazon, Visa, B&Q, Leicester Tigers, the Wooden Spoon Society and other large companies, but I’ve found just as much satisfaction, and certainly more joy, producing work for family run bed and breakfasts, aspiring catering companies, musicians, breweries (!) and, of course, individuals and families.

Thank you for sharing my website, connecting on social media and spreading the word. It’s how all artists manage to keep on doing what they do…
